A million times yes.

In honor of famed animator Hayao Miyazaki’s birthday, Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner posted this sketch he did in 2009 while attending Miyazaki’s panel at Comic-Con.
Notice first that Mechner’s sketches are wonderful. Notice second the lovely little story written bottom right:

This girl stood in line through the whole panel and when her turn came to asia  question, asked with trembling hands why Miyazaki chose female protagonists for his movies? He answer through his interpreter: “Because women are strong and beautiful.” She went away in a daze with an expression of ecstasy on her face.

Listening to this rad track “None of Ya Business” by Nyemiah Supreme, which is my jam right now, as it were.

As rcrdlbl mentions, the track is “a female empowerment anthem of sorts”. Maybe it’s been all the recent and wonderful posts concerning male privilege and women in the gaming community, but opposers (aka the trolls) of the community could take a hint or two from Nyemiah’s lyrics:

It’s different cause I’m a girl - I wish that I could flip the visions of all the world - It’s different cause I’m a chick

I could try and explain it, but it’s shit they wouldn’t get - they want lit, but not if it’s real shit.

Gossip gossip, you really got to stop it - You got your foot in your mouth, so put a sock with it.

Are you bored with your life? You got too much time. Get yours instead of being in mine.

Looooove, this.

There have been some smart and illuminating discussions about sexism in the game industry the past few days, my favorite being Margret Robertson’s “In which I don’t try to write like a man”, a response to the (also really great) post “Dear Men, please listen. Love, Man.” by Mark Sorrell. Really intelligent, reasonable stuff here guys. Recommended reading for all y’all.

All this blog reworking has been a lot of fun, and when I found out I could include a customized anonymous avatar for my Disqus comments I started to draw out the details for my very own (sketches to the right!).
As this is happening, lo and behold one of my favorite ladies of the web Natalie writes this terrific round-up of good and bad userpics across the net. It’s a fun and interesting read, and inspired the direction for my own little avatar drawing. Hope y’all approve (or sign in when you comment *wink*).

Kate Beaton’s new comic “Strong Female Characters” is pretty damn hilarious. My favorite strips are this one and “Origin”. The concept sketches at the bottom are terrific too.
